How the Convay score works

Every Convay score is computed only from public data anyone could check, the same way for every business — customer or not. It is methodology-based, consistently applied, reproducible, and disputable. This is model score-model/1.4.

What we disclose (v1)

Some checks use a rougher but uniform instrument today, sharpened in later versions. Weights and bands never change between versions — only the measurement. Every one is applied identically to every business.

Local visibility uses search position, not the live map pack

We record your position in Google Places search results for your category near you — the same relevance ranking, measured identically for every business, without per-user personalisation.

Listings match checks name and phone; address matching is v2

We match your business name and phone number between your website and Google, and check that an address or service area is published on your site. Matching your address against Google is deferred to v2 — unit numbers and street abbreviations generate disputes out of proportion to signal.

A site we can’t read is marked unverified, never failed

If your website blocks automated readers, the checks that need it are set aside and the category is rescored on what we could verify — you are never zeroed for bot protection.

Review recency and pace use the reviews Google returns

Google returns up to five reviews per business, ordered by relevance. Recency and pace are estimated from those — a coarse but uniform v1 signal that a monthly re-score sharpens over time.

Domain age comes from the public registration record

We look up when your website’s domain was registered via the public RDAP registry (the successor to WHOIS). A lookup that fails is marked unverified and set aside — an unknown age is never scored as a young domain.

The profile description check reads Google’s summary of you

Google writes the short description shown on your profile (the editorial summary) from how complete and established your listing is — you can’t edit it directly. We score its presence as a completeness signal; the fix is to enrich your profile, not to type a description.
